Maharashtra to Introduce Women Farmers Empowerment Bill 2026
  • The Maharashtra Women Farmers Empowerment Bill, 2026, will be introduced in the Monsoon Session of the Legislative Assembly starting 22 June. It aims to grant independent legal recognition to women farmers and improve access to welfare schemes. Over 81% of Maharashtra’s agricultural workforce comprises women, yet many lack benefits due to land ownership norms.
  • The Bill proposes a broader definition of ‘farmer’ covering landless farmers, tenant cultivators, labourers, and those in animal husbandry, fisheries, and horticulture. It includes a digital access system, a dedicated Women Farmers Fund, and a monitoring committee.
