The UNFPA’s 2025 State of World Population Report has revealed that financial hardship is a major barrier to family planning for Indian households. Despite achieving a $4 trillion GDP milestone, 38% of families report having fewer children than desired. India’s fertility rate has dropped to 1.9—below the 2.1 replacement level—indicating potential future demographic challenges.
